Our Fez Cement Tiles Are A Fantastic Fit at Fairweather, San Diego’s Rooftop Bar

FairweatherBar

Designer and restaurateur Arsalun Tafazoli created two contrasting dining spaces in this 1908-dated building.  Downstairs there’s a deli; upstairs, the Fairweather lounge is a celebration of the environment — check out those living walls — and the space’s history as a speakeasy.  The bar at the centerpiece of it all is clad in our blue and white Fez cement tiles, adding a festive, lively — we could even say jazzy — vibe to this lively addition to San Diego’s nightlife.

Get The Look: Malibu Fish Grill and Our Europa Cement Tiles

MalibuFishGrill1

We stopped by the Malibu Fish Grill the other day and were, once again, delighted with how this restaurant space turns the concept of the seafood shack into something playful, modern and vivacious.  Our Europa concrete tile is the cement tile here, a subtle nod to the sea with those white circles bringing to mind a mass of bubbles rising to the surface of the water.

Get The Look: Blue Bottle Coffee and Our Cluny and Fez Cement Tiles

Granada cement tiles and great coffee are a match made in heaven.  Here’s a pairing of of concrete tiles that can be found at one of Blue Bottle Coffee’s New York locations. Located in midtown Manhattan location, it’s right across the street from Bryant Park, in the WeWork building (we also pair very well with creative workspaces!).  Not quite patchwork, this combination of our Fez cement tiles and our Cluny cement tiles in black and white is anything but basic.  Bold, beautiful and visually arresting, these two concrete tile designs play nicely together.  Fez’s geometric lines are softened by Cluny’s girlish swirls; Cluny’s ornate curlicues are made graphic by Fez’s orderly pattern.

Here’s a floorcore from Instagram we reposted recently:

BlueBottleCoffeeBryantParkAnd, here’s a screenshot of the pattern recreated using our interactive tile tool so you can see more clearly how the tiles are laid out:BlueBottleInteractive

Riffing on a traditional checkerboard pattern, these two encaustic tile designs are laid two Cluny cement tiles, then two Fez cement tiles, then two Cluny; a second row that repeats the first row; and, then the following two rows are flipped (two Fez, two Cluny).  What’s interesting here is that, although Cluny is usually displayed in a pattern of quadrant that emphasizes the curves of this encaustic tile design:

…the Blue Bottle pattern underlines its less voluptuous side by turning the tiles around so that the tulip shapes are in the outer corners.  We love it!  What do you think?

Our Copenhagen Cement Tiles Are A Showstopper in The Thompson Hotel’s 1930s House

ThompsonMiami

Miami’s Thompson Hotel includes a high-style speakeasy, just the place for intriguing cocktails and mouth-watering tidbits.  Underlining the spectacular setting’s historic past and lively present, our Copenhagen cement tiles unfurl across the restaurant floor, emphasizing its glamor and glitz.

The dark and moody image above doesn’t give full justice this encaustic tile’s intricate blend of white, grey, black and cordoba (a deep wine color).  To get a closer look at the design of these concrete tiles, which would work just as well to balance a stark modern kitchen as they do here, offsetting traditional furniture in warm shades of rust and ochre, we’ve included the tear sheet so you can recreate the look in your own home.

Sunset1230

Happy new year and best wishes for 2015!

As the expected lists of what’s hot and what’s not start to make their appearances in our newspapers, magazines and on the web, we’re excited to discover something we’ve been saying for years: cement tile is leading the pack of trends for 2015.  Sunset’s December 30th newsletter was the first indication (and we love how our Sofia concrete tile stands out from the pack!).  Then there was this article in the Wall Street Journal a few days later and this piece on Apartment Therapy, both of which extolled the virtues of encaustic tile.  We can’t say that we’re surprised.  Durable, colorful, beautiful, environmentally-friendly exotic and modern, they fit right in with the mood right now.  Of course, from our point of view, cement tiles always in style.  In addition to their beautiful designs and vivid colors, our concrete tiles are long lasting, easy care and low maintenance — making concrete tiles perfect for your home, whether used as floor tile or wall tile.  Call us today at 213-482-8070 to discuss which of our encaustic tile designs would be perfect for your home or restaurant project.
