Traditional Cement Tiles For Your Modern Home

Granada Tiles Serengeti and Santander Cement Tiles in a modern home by Barbara BestorHow To Add Traditional Cement Tiles To A Modern Home

Dwell Magazine recently shared some examples of how to add traditional materials, like cement tile, to modern homes. Coincidentally, they shared this incredible bathroom created by Barbara Bestor, one of our favorite designers and architects. This vibrant space highlights both our Serengeti and our Santander cement tiles. Our Serengeti cement tiles in black and white cover the floor. And, additionally, our Santander cement tiles, in black and white, with a touch of blue, are used for the bathroom’s backsplash. In our opinion, the long history of this traditional material underscores why it’s the ideal material for modern spaces. In fact, cement tiles have been beautifying the cafes and plazas of European, South American and North African cities for centuries. Consequently, they’ve proven their durability through time and weather. So they’ll stand up to the normal wear and tear of today’s bathrooms and kitchens and still retain their incredible beauty. Moreover, they’re easy to care for and, when wet, less slippery than porcelain tile. Incidentally, many people have remarked how silky-smooth the texture of cement tile feels on bare feet. We think that’s a great bonus for a bathroom!

It’s Trade Show Time!

It’s trade show time and we’ve been busy traveling! We’re showing off our new collection. It’s our unique take on Hexagon-shaped cement tiles. We just got back from Coverings. The show took place at Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. Here are a few behind the scenes photos from interior designer Cie Studio that capture our booth! And a short round-up from House & Home on tile trends. They loved our patterns, especially our terrazzo tile.

Granada Tile’s Fez Cement Tile in San Francisco Magazine

Granada Tile’s Fez cement tile in San Francisco Magazine

Ten years and counting, Fez cement tile is still inspiring great design. Arguably, it works as well in bohemian outdoor spaces as it does in modern bathrooms. Take for example, the modern bathroom in the March issue of San Francisco magazine. Smooth white walls, a circular window and sleek shower niches form a sophisticated pairing with Fez cement tile’s exuberant graphic pattern. Designed by Mason St. Peter, the look is decidedly modern while at the same time utterly timeless. Ultimately it will look as fresh in another decade from now as it does today. Fez cement tile in a modern bathroom by Mason St. Peter in San Francisco Magazing

Patchwork Tile Adds Up To Big Style In A Small Kitchen

Patchwork gives a small kitchen big style

Bummed about the size of your kitchen? In a piece on Architectural Digest, interior designer Rebecca Ascher cites the benefits of a small kitchen. In the first place, prioritize your appliances. Then never settle for a sink less than 28 inches wide. In our opinion, once you get the basics down, add a personal touch. A small space, as most designers will tell you, can take a bold touch. In this case, it’s the black and white patchwork cement tiles covering the island and part of the wall.A small kitchen sports big style with the addition of patchwork cement tilesLet your imagination run wild! Bathroom Tiles In A Beastie Boy’s Malibu Home

Colorful Bathroom Tiles in a Malibu Home as seen in Architectural Digest

In our opinion, Beastie Boy Mike D’s Malibu home is the epitome of California cool. As a matter of fact, it’s designed by Barbara Bestor of Bestor Architecture, one of our favorite architects. Incidentally, she used our Fez cement tile over a decade ago in Silver Lake’s Intelligensia Coffee. Naturally, she turned to Granada Tile for the bathroom tile in this colorful home.
