A Dramatic Bathroom Focal Point

Use Cement Tile To Create A Focal Point

In a recent post on Design*Sponge, interior designer Regan Baker suggested 10 ways to infuse your space with color. She included this beautiful image of a project she designed. She also shared some advice on intriguing new ways to use tile:

2. Tile in Unexpected Places – “Sometimes, a kitchen or bathroom becomes more intriguing based on where you choose to put your tile. Extending a simple tile backsplash in the kitchen to cover the stove range hood will keep the design clean and fluid. In a bathroom, create an accent wall with a patterned, colored tile, while using a neutral tile for the rest of the bathroom.” By keeping the rest of the space a neutral white, bold patterns like the Granada tiles on the wall and a rug by HD Buttercup can exist in harmony.

Breaking News: Cement Tile for a Standout Shower

Remodelista can’t be beat when it comes to great ideas, tips, sources  and inspiration for just about any home-related project you could possibly think of. Looking for a Danish Modern bird feeder or a great place to find midcentury Spanish design in London? Remodelista is the place for you.

Remodelista also happens to be a fan of Granada Tile‘s sensational cement tile. They’ve featured Barbara Bestor‘s now-iconic design for Intelligentsia Coffee‘s first LA location (with its wonderful Fez cement tile installation). Fez also stole the show in another Remodelista post—this a kitchen with Fez cement wall tiles and floor tiles—by the firm Shubin + Donaldson.

Recently they showed another wonderful project that includes our Fez tile design. This time it’s Jim Rosenfield’s office. Rosenfield happens to be the guy behind the fantastic Marin Country Mart in Larkspur, Califorrnia, where you can find a fantastic farmers’ market as well as chic boutiques and eateries. (One just happens to be El Huarache Loco where another of Granada Tile’s cement tile designs happens to be installed.)

Rosenfield tells Remodelista that he wanted a homey feel for his office since he spends the lion’s share of his time there, so it’s calm, peaceful and comfortable with shades of white and lots of light. The bathroom, though, has plenty of color in the form of our Fez tile design. Not only did he install Fez bathroom tiles on the floor, Fez wall tiles line the shower—and its ceiling—so you’re almost totally ensconced in a Fez cement tile cocoon. Needless to say, we LOVE it.

For more on Jim Rosenfield’s fabulous office, head over to Remodelista. There are more tile pictures from his bathroom and some shots of the rest of the place, all of which will make you swoon!

Breaking News: El Huarache Loco

Another day, another fantastic cement tile installation made possible by Granada Tile! This time it’s the fabulously named El Huarache Loco in Marin County. The food biz got its start in owner Veronica Salazar’s own kitchen, where she served weekend meals featuring the food of her native Mexico. She took a leap and began working the farmers’ market circuit in the Bay Area. Recently, she opened her very first brick-and-mortar restaurant at the Marin Country Mart.

The new restaurant El Huarache Loco in Larkspur, California, has a tile installation featuring Granada Tile’s Normandy tile design. Tile photo, Brooke Gray Photography (www.brookegrayphotography.com).

The restaurant matches the exciting food focused on the cuisine of Mexico City—specifically the huarache. For the uninitiated, that’s a masa cake filled with beans, cooked on a griddle and covered in all sorts of yummy toppings. (BLT huarache anyone?) It all comes to you In a space perhaps best described as Medieval Europe meets Northern California.

What’s that you ask? Well, think sturdy chairs of wood and serious wrought-iron light fixtures. But it’s not all dark colors and imposing furnishings. Instead, the rest of the space is airy and bright as befitting a restaurant in one of the prettiest spots in California. The walls are bright white, the windows let the natural light pour in, and the the stainless steel countertop gleams. Anchoring everything is a concrete tile installation featuring Granada Tile’s Normandy tile design from our flagship Echo Collection, a perfect choice when you consider the design. The cement tiles’ motif evokes beautiful French designs of the Middle Ages, but the white ground means a fresh touch perfect for the area.

Next time you’re in the neighborhood, be sure to stop by El Huarache Loco. Have one of their signature dishes and don’t forget to take a look at the stunning Granada Tile installation.
