Installation Equation: Cluny the Chameleon

Cluny, the town in central France, was a center of thought and art in the Middle Ages—due to the presence of the Benedictine monastery there. Granada Tile’s Cluny tile design, part of our Echo Collection, offers its own take on medieval design but is versatile enough to be included in all sorts of tile installation. Today, we’ll take you on tour of some fantastic tile installations featuring Cluny. From traditional to contemporary, you’ll see how perfectly suited Cluny is to any interior. An entry hall (in the home of designer Adrianna Lopez in Long Beach, California) with a Cluny-covered floors starts us on our cement tile photo tour. In the space, which has a bit of an exotic feel—carved front door, anyone?—the Cluny floor tiles add a bit of Gothic intensity.

Cluny holds a special spot on Lopez’s heart. For a kitchen tile installation, she covered the floor in the cement tile design. It’s a bold choice in a mostly white room that retains much of its period flair. The effect is lively and brings just the right amount of pattern into the kitchen.

Even when included in a more modern interior, Cluny looks right at home. In another kitchen, the Cluny wall tiles mix beautifully with the modern light fixtures and sleek countertops.

Of course Cluny is ideal for kitchen tiles or wall tiles or backsplash tiles. It’s also a great choice elsewhere in the house. Our clients asked us to create Cluny cement tiles in a custom chocolate and taupe palette for a fireplace surround. The earthy hues match the warm woods found throughout the room.

A round up of Cluny wouldn’t be the same if we didn’t include this fantastic Northern California bathroom tile installation. As you can see, our Cluny tile design plays extremely well with others. As wall tiles, it blends in perfectly with the mod look of Athens and the smart geometry of Fez.
