Behind The Cement Tile: Fez

Where do we start to talk about the magic that is our Fez cement tile?  Since its splashy debut into the public’s consciousness eight years ago, courtesy of Los Angeles architect extraordinaire Barbara Bestor, at Silver Lake’s Intelligensia Cafe, one of the city’s most popular coffee shops, these concrete tiles, in our standard blue and white colorway, have captured the imagination of architects, designers and tastemakers from coast to coast.  The simple graphic look of these cement tiles is at once modern and exotic; this concrete tile design works just as well in a traditional setting as it does in a contemporary space. This cement tile design comes from historic molds made of cast bronze that were purchased in the early days of Granada Tile’s existence.  Because of its classic Moroccan feel, we decided to christen this concrete tile design after that country’s pre-eminent city for artisans.  In blue and white, this cement tile pattern also bears a whiff of Greece and the Greek islands, bringing to mind that land’s ancient oceanside villages, the calming blue of the summer sea contrasting with the stark whitewashed homes.  Whatever warm land this cement tile evokes for you, here are some examples of how this cement tile pattern adapts to different spaces — kitchen backsplash tile, outdoor deck tile, bathroom floor tile, shower tiles, stair tile, patio tile — and shows off its hardworking, durable, modern and timeless qualities.

The same qualities that make our cement tiles perfect for a hardworking coffee shop or restaurant space — in addition to their beautiful designs and vivid colors, our concrete tiles are long lasting, easy care and low maintenance — make it perfect for your home, whether used as floor tile or wall tile.  Call us today at 213-482-8070 to discuss which of our encaustic tile designs would be perfect for your home or restaurant project.
