You just purchased from our Minis tile collection and cannot wait to install that much needed backsplash in your kitchen. It isn’t the biggest of projects, so you decide you shall tackle this all on your own. We are glad to hear that, but we will offer a few tips to make this project as smooth as possible.
The most common mistakes in installing tile can be avoided by simply taking just a few minutes to plan things out before you jump right into it. Measure the area you want to have tiled and then lay out the design on paper with a pencil. This allows you to work out the small details. If there is a focal point within your design, start there and work your way out. Mark the coordinating measurements on your paper to the tile. Cut the tiles to size with a wet saw, remember to use extreme caution as to avoid mistakes. Don’t forget to turn off the circuit breaker for the kitchen. Remove any faceplates within the tile area and line up the tiles so they are flush. It is important you clean the surface of the wall. If there is wallpaper, you can tile over it, just make sure to remove any peeling or otherwise loose sections. Apply the adhesive to the wall with a notched trowel, make sure the adhesive is smooth and uniform and free from lumps. Position the tiles closely together, the tile ridges will create a natural separation. Try to avoid pushing the tiles into place as this leads to glue build up. You will want to wait at least 24 hours before applying the grout. When it is complete, you can sit back, smile and enjoy the beauty of your new backsplash.
