Behind The Cement Tile: Santander

As regular readers may know, Granada Tile’s global perspective and love of travel means that we like to name our encaustic tile patterns after cities, countries and favorite spots around the world that inspire us.  Case in point, our Santander cement tile.  Located in the north of Spain, the town of Santander was settled early on, though it’s difficult to determine the exact date.  However, it’s likely that the bay, sheltered from storms and winds, a source of water and power and a good point from which to spot potential enemies, was the origin point.  This seashore, with its wide swaths of changing color due to the shifting patterns of waves and calm, wet sand and dry sand became the inspiration for our concrete tile pattern.  The four simple parallel lines of these Santander encaustic tiles echo that pattern. Depending on how these cement tiles are laid, Santander concrete tile can take on many guises.  Above, at Horse Thief, a popular barbecue spot in Los Angeles’s Grand Central Marketplace, laying these wall tiles so that the diagonals run one way and then the other, creates a strong geometric presence.

In another cement tile installation, used as the kitchen tile backsplash in this San Francisco space designed by Tim Balon, it takes on a much wilder, bolder and graphic tone, bringing life to the clean, sleek contemporary kitchen. And while this concrete tile pattern is shown in black and white, which is available in our cement tile shop, if you’re curious to play with color, it’s a great pattern with which to get creative. The qualities that make Granada Tile’s cement tiles the perfect choice for a hardworking coffee shop’s cement tile floor or restaurant’s concrete tile floor or a barbecue’s encaustic wall tile — along with their beautiful designs and vivid colors, our concrete tile is long lasting, easy care and low maintenance — are the same ones make it perfect for your tile project, whether used as kitchen floor tile, kitchen backsplash tile or wall tile, bathroom tile, shower tile, patio tile or laundry room tile.  Start by visiting our cement tile shop to peruse our large selection of in-stock handmade master-crafted cement tiles and call us today at 213-482-8070 to discuss which of our encaustic tile designs would be perfect for your home or restaurant project.
